The price of homes in Long Island’s two counties went in two different directions last month, as home prices rose in Nassau County and fell in Suffolk County.
In Nassau, the median price of homes contracted for sale in December was $409,500, an increase of 5 percent from the $390,000 median price recorded in December 2012, according to numbers from the Multiple Listing Service of Long Island.
Home prices in Suffolk dipped last month. The median price of pending home sales there in December was $295,000, a 4.8 percent drop from December 2012, when the median price was $310,000.
The number of homes listed for sale on Long Island at the end of December – 13,765 – was about 9 percent lower than the available inventory a year ago.
